Radical SR9

The next logical step for Radical is to produce an LMP2 car to compete in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series in Europe, and the 24 hours of Le Mans race itself.

The chassis is a carbon composite structure complying with all the FIA 2006 safety regulations. The suspension, hubs and uprights are manufactured in house. Brakes are six-pot, manufactured to Radical's own design, while monoblock calipers and carbon discs are available as an option.

The bodywork and aerodynamic package has been designed by Peter Elleray and is based on the extensive knowledge he gained during the Le Mans-winning Bentley programme. The package fully complies with the ACO's 2006 regulations.

Radical's original plan was to offer a range of engine options including its own Powertec V8. Following discussions with leading Le Mans teams, we have decided to offer a bespoke integrated engine and transmission package. We have teamed up with AER, who produce the most powerful LMP2 engine, and Ricardo, supplier of gearboxes to Audi and others, to offer a competitive, cost-effective and above all, reliable drive system.

The Powertec AER, as the engine will be known, is a sophisticated 2-litre turbo-charged engine which is extremely powerful, cost effective to run and has proven reliability.

For teams preferring to run with a normally aspirated engine, provision is made in the chassis for the 3.4 lite Judd V8 installation.

The Ricardo transmission is a lightweight transaxle, the internals of which are run in the ultra-reliable Audi R8 car. The gearbox is rated at 750Nm, way in excess of the 600Nm produced by the Powertec AER, fits within the new rear diffuser aerodynamic regulations, and has proven reliable over a 24 hour timeframe. The transaxle is offered with an optional AER paddle-shift system.

In providing a bespoke transmission / electronics installation, Radical is able to ensure compatibility, and provide one port of call in the event of any problems.

Radical will support all of its customers at every LMS round with a comprehensive package of spares. A full customer / sponsor hospitality package is also available from Radicals dedicated hospitality facility.
